  • Learn key dive leadership skills through classroom and independent study sessions 
  • Develop your water skills and stamina through exercises in both confined and open water envrionments

 Once you've got a PADI Divemaster certification under your belt, the next step up the PADI career development ladder is the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), and the PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of your IDC (along with the EFR Instructor Course described above).

As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you will: 

  • Teach academic presentations (under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor)
  • Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills (under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor)

  • Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. The OWSI is the second portion of your Instructor Diver Course (the PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion).

Through the IDC program, you will: 

  • Complete knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Practice confined water skills with regular reviews and assessments 
  • Participate in workshops and presentations, including open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
  • Log at least 100 dives prior to entering a PADI Instructor Exam
